TermDefinition
Desertification the process by which land that can be farmed or lived on turns into desert (due to climate change, erosion, peoples'actions,...)
Subsistence Farming A method of farming in which people grow food mainly to feed their households rather than to sell.
Apartheid An official policy of racial separation formerly practiced in South Africa.
Push-Pull Factor Factors that push and pull people to migrate. Advantages such as jobs pull people to a region, disadvantages such as war push people away from a region.
Refugees People who flee a country because of war, disaster, or persecution. Refugees seek a refuge (safe place) to stay.
Drought An extended period of time with little or no rainfall.
Famine A drastic wide-reaching food shortage over an extended period of time.
Dictator A person who has complete control over a country's government- an unlimited government.
Cash Crop Crops grown for sale.
Segregation Separation of one racial group from another.
An example of segregation that took place in South Africa was called_________. Apartheid
