longitude (meridians) an angular distance east and west from the earth's surface
latitude (parallels) an angular distance north or south from the equator
Equator separates the earth into the northern and southern hemispheres
Prime meridian a planet's meridian adopted as the zero of longitude
northern hemisphere top half of the earth divided by the equator
southern hemisphere bottom half of the earth divided by the equator
eastern hemisphere eastern half of the earth divided by the meridian
western hemisphere western half of the earth divided by the meridian
