Landforms
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Mountains | very high and rocky and can be pointed or round |
| Hills | like mountains but only smaller. The wind and rain have worn some of them down. |
| Valley | low land between two mountains |
| Canyon | deep valley with very steep sides |
| Plains | large areas of low, flat land |
| Plateau | high like a hill, but flat on top like a plain |
| Pennisula | land that sticks out into the water and is surrounded on water by 3 sides |
| Desert | dry and sometimes sandy and can be hot or cold |
| Swamp | low land that is always socked with water |
| Delta | low water land that is formed at the mouth of a river |
| Isthmus | a narrow strip of land that connects two larger areas of land |
| Volcano | mountain or hill that has a crater or vent at the top. lava, rock, gas and vapors erupt from the Earth's crust |
| Waterfall | cascade of water falling from a height and is formed when a river or stream flowing over a large incline |
| Lake | large body of water surrounded by land |
| Cave | large underground chamber, usually made naturally, on a hillside or cliff |
| Mount Everest | the world's tallest mountain |
| Grand Canyon | located in the United States |
| Great Plain | the large flat part of the United States |
| Island | small pieces of land surrounded completely by water |
| Hawaii | state that is completely an island |
| Sahara | hottest desert in the world |
| Antarctica | frozen desert without sand |
| Florida Everglades | swamp land in the United States |
| Great Lakes | lakes located in the United States |
| Five Great Lakes | Superior,Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario |
