Intensive Farming Farming that requires a great deal of labor.
Terrace In farming, a flat, narrow ledge of land, usually constructed in hilly areas to increase the amount of arable land.
Bullet Train A high-speed train.
Seismorgraph An instrument that measures and records movement in the earth's crust.
Typhoon A destructive tropical storm that forms over the Pacific Ocean.
Homogeneous Having a similar nature; uniform in structure or quality.
Militarism The glorification of the military and a readiness for war.
Downsize To fire an employee in order to reduce costs.
Tariff A tax imposed by a government on imported goods.
Quota A fixed quantity.
Demilitarized Zone A strip of land on which troops or weapons are not allowed.
Proliferation An increase in the number of something.
Sphere of Influence An area or country that is politically and economically dominated by, though not directly governed by, another country.
Abdicate To surrender one's office. throne. or authority.
Warlord A local leader with a military following.
Light Industry The production of small consumer goods such as clothing an appliances.
Martial Law The law administered during a period of strict military control.
Double Cropping A mass migration from a region.
Theocrat Someone who claims to rule by religious or divine authority.
Autonomous Region A political unit with limited self-government.
Ideogram In written language, a character or symbol that represents and idea or thing.
Atheism The belief the God does not exist.
Acupuncture The ancient Chinese practice of inserting fine needles at specific body points to cure disease or to ease pain.
Buffer A protective zone between two countries.
Provisional Government T temporary government pending permanent arrangements.
Exodus A mass migration from a region.
