| monotheism | belief in one God |
| Torah | a set of laws that Moses supposed received from God that later became the first part of the Hebrew Bible |
| Exile | forced absence from one's homeland |
| commandment | a rule that God wanted Israelites to follow |
| kosher | food prepared according to Jewish dietary law |
| rabbi | an official leader of a Jewish congregation |
| diaspora | the group of Jews living outside of the Jewish homeland |
| alphabet | a set of letters or other characters used to write a language |
