1 Isthmus A narrow strip of land having water on each side and joining two larger bodies of land.
2 Guerrilla A member of an armed force that is not part of a regular army; relating to a form of warfare carried on by such an independent armed force.
3 Archipelago A group of islands.
4 Coral Island An island formed by the skeletons remains of tiny sea animals and the sand and sediment piling on top of them.
5.Windward Facing the wind.
6.Leeward Facing away from the wind.
7.escarpment A steep cliff that separates two level areas of differing elevations.
8.sertao An interior plateau in Brazil with poor soil and uncertain rain.
9.favela A slum community in a Brazilian city.
10.plantation A large estate farmed by many workers.
11.gasohol A fuel mixture of gasoline and ethanol.
12.deforestation The process of stripping the land of its trees.
13.ecotourism Tourism that encourages environmental awareness and has little effect on the ecosystem.
14.Mulatto A person of mixed African and European ancestry.
15. Bauxite A mineral used in making aluminum.
16.Llano A grassy plain.
17.Cordillera A related set of separate mountain ranges.
18. Campesino In Latin America, a tenant farmer or farm worker.
19.Altiplano A plateau region located in the Andes of Bolivia and Peru.
20.Paramo A plateau in the Andes of Ecuador.
21.Timber Line The boundary in high elevations above which continuous forest vegetation cannot grow.
22.Selva A forested region in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
23.Estuary The wide mouth of a river , where freshwater river meets salt water.
24.Piedmont A region of rolling foot hills.
25.Pampas A grasslands region in Argentina and Uruguay.
26.Gaucho A cowboy who herded cattle in the pampas of Argentina and Uruguay.
