Using Latitude and Longitude (pp. 2-9)

worddefinition
orientation the location of direction on maps
parallel a line of latitude; east-west lines drawn on maps
latitude distances north or south of Equator
hemisphere one half of the earth
longitude distances east or west of the Prime Meridian
geographic coordinates numbers in the geographic grid system that give latitude and longitude of a place
compass rose drawing used to show orientation on maps that do not have a grid system
key part of a map that explains the symbols used
meridian line of longitude; any north-south lines drawn on maps
