5th Grade Geography terms

QuestionAnswer
Equator An imaginary line that circles Earth halway betwen the North Pole and the South Pole. This line divides Earth into the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.
Prime Meridian An imaginary line that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole and divides Earth into the Western Hemisphere and the Eastern Hemisphere.
Gulf Parts of sea or ocean that cuts into a mass of land.
Bay Similar to a gulf, but usually it is smaller and has a wide opening to the sea.
Source Where a river begins.
Mouth Where the river empties into a larger body of water like an ocean or a lake.
Tributary a small stream that feeds into a river
Delta This is formed when soil is deposited at the mouth of a river. It is usually shaped like a triangle.
