Schedule III - prescriptions may be written or oral, up to 5 refills allowed | Accepted for medical use, may cause moderate to low physical dependence or high psychological dependence
Ex. Paregoric, Tylenol w/codeine, anabolic steroids, Vicodin |
Schedule IV - prescriptions may be written or oral, up to 5 refills allowed | Accepted for medical use, low potential for abuse, may cause limited physical or psychological dependence. includes minor hypnotics
Ex. Librium, Valium, Darvon, Ambien, Lunesta |
Schedule V - may be sold by a pharmacist in some states, must be 18 & show ID | Accepted for medical use, low potential for abuse, may cause limited physical or psychological dependence, includes drug mixtures containing limited narcotics
