intrigue | the making of secret plans to harm someone or make them lose their position of power, or a plan of this kind |
seemingly | appearing to have a particular quality, when this may or may not be true |
pun | an amusing use of a word or phrase that has two meanings, or of words that have the same sound but different meanings |
oblivious | not knowing about or not noticing something that is happening around you |
impervious | not affected or influenced by something and seeming not to notice it |
apologetically | showing or saying that you are sorry that something has happened, especially because you feel guilty or embarrassed about it |
gradually | slowly, over a long period of time |
vulnerable | a place, thing, or idea that is vulnerable is easy to attack or criticize |
potential | likely to develop into a particular type of person or thing in the future |
practical | useful or suitable for a particular purpose or situation |
gratitude | the feeling of being grateful |
evidently | used to say that something is true because you can see that it is true |
trickled | if people, vehicles, goods etc trickle somewhere, they move there slowly in small groups or amounts |
subdued | an activity that is subdued does not have as much excitement as you would expect |
vacancy | a room in a hotel or building that is not being used and is available for someone to stay in |
revert | to return to a former habit, practice, belief, condition, etc |
admiring | showing that you think someone or something is very impressive or attractive |
