Matter

QuestionAnswer
Matter Anything that takes up space.
Property A characteristic of a substance that can be observed.
Physical Property Characteristics that can be observed with out changing the appearance.
Chemical Property Characteristics that are observed through changing the appearance.
Mass A large body of matter with no definite shape.
Volume The amount of space a substance or object takes up.
Solid A substance that is usually hard and it's particles are close together.
Liquid A substance that, if there is enough, can fill any container and it's particles are close together.
Gas A substance that can fill any container of any size and shape and has molecules that are very spread out.
Atom The smallest measurement of matter.
Atomic Number Number of protons in an atom.
Nucleus The center of an atom. Also the heaviest part of an atom
Proton The positive subatomic particles in the nucleus
Neutron The neutral subatomic particles in the nucleus.
Electron The negative subatomic particles in the nucleus.
Malleability The ability to flatten into a sheet.
Ductility The ability to stretch into a wire.
Reactivity The ability to react to different substances.
Metal Shiny good conductors, malleable, ductility.
Metalloid Like both metal and non-metal, shiny, malleable, and semi-conductors.
Non-metal Poor conductors, mostly gases, and dull.
