geometry vocabulary

| line segment | part of a line with two endpoints |
| ray | part of a line with one endpoint |
| line | points connected in a straight path that goes on forever |
| parallel lines | lines that never intersect |
| intersecting lines | lines that cross |
| perpindicular lines | lines that intersect to create 90 degree angles |
| angle | two rays that share an endpoint |
| right angle | 90 degree angle |
| vertex | the shared endpoint of an angle |
| acute angle | less than 90 degrees |
| obtuse angle | more than 90 degrees |
| straight angle | 180 degrees |
| polygon | a closed figure made of polygons that do not overlap |
| congruent | same or equal measurement |
| regular polygon | has all congruent sides and angles |
| concave polygon | at least 1 angle that points inward (caves in) |
| convex polygon | all angles point outward |
| triangle | 3-sided polygon |
| quandrangle (quadrilateral) | 4-sided polygon |
| pentagon | 5-sided polygon |
| hexagon | 6-sided polygon |
| heptagon | 7-sided polygon |
| octagon | 8-sided polygon |
| nonagon | 9-sided polygon |

| acute triangle | all 3 angles less than 90 degrees |
| right triangle | 1 angle is 90 degrees |
| obtuse triangle | 1 angle is more than 90 degrees |
| scalene triangle | no congruent sides |
| isosceles triangle | at least 2 congruent sides |
| equilateral triangle | 3 congruent sides (is also an isosceles triangle) |
