Memorable Quotations Can be used in persuasive writing to draw in the reader. Can be taken from previous presidents, current presidents, famous actors, politicians, writers, etc.....
Statistics the science of making effective use of numerical data relating to if individuals or experiments. It can be used in persuasive writing to prove information. For example, 60% of Americans use this product!
Bandwagon An appeal to the subject to follow the crowd, to join in because others are doing so as well
Card Stacking involves only presenting information that is positive to an idea or proposal and omitting information contrary to it. example: elections
testimonial attempt to connect a famous or respectable person with a product or item by giving a testimony.
viewpoint the mental attitude that determines a person's opinions or judgements
position attitude toward a specific topic examples include a principal's viewpoint on chewing gum in school or a student's viewpoint on homework.
expert opinion the opinion of an expert or someone who knows a lot about a subject.
objections: an exclamation of disagreement or opposition toward a topic.
tone the attitude a writer takes towards a subject or character; serious, humorous, sarcastic,sad, etc..... tone is similar to mood.
argument A position about a topic that will also have a different side.
thesis statement states the position of the writer and brings together points to support the topic
Fallacy a fact used in argumentative writing that is untrue
claim: A point made in argumentative writing that supports the thesis statement
counterclaim: a point made in argumentative writing that refutes the thesis statement
evidence information used that supports a claim
credible information that is backed up with researched facts
valid true
bias one sided evidence that supports an argument
fact information supporting the thesis statement that is true- backed up with research
opinion information supporting the thesis statement that is what someone thinks to be true - not backed up with research
