Algebra 1 Terms

Basic terms and definitions for an Algebra 1 class

QuestionAnswer
Equation An equation says that two things are equal. It will have an equals sign "="
Variables a symbol for a number we don't know yet, it is usually a letter
Constant A number on its own
Coefficient a number used to multiply a variable
Operator s a symbol (such as +, ×, etc) that represents an operation
Term either a single number or a variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together.
Expression a group of terms
Exponent how many times to use the value in a multiplication
Polynomial terms that can have constants, variables and the exponents
Like Terms terms whose variables are the same
