What is primary damage? Damage caused by the fire
What is secondary damage? Damage caused by the suppression activities
When does salvage start? As soon as adequate personnel are available and may be done simultaneously with fire attack.
Consists of those operations involved in searching for an extinguishing hidden or remaining fires. Overhaul
How many salvage covers are typically required per residential room? one salvage cover
Salvage cover arrangement that channels excess water from a building. chute
Waterproof cover made of cotton duck, plastic, or other material used by fire depts to protect unaffected furniture and building areas from heat, smoke, and water damage. Salvage cover
What cleaning is required for salvage covers? rinsing and scrubbing with a broom.....extremely dirty covers may be scrubbed with a detergent solution.
What can be used to mark salvage covers for repairs Chalk can be used for canvas covers and marking pen for vinyl covers
Backpack type water vacuums typically have what capacity? 4-5 gallons
Floor model water vacuums may have a capacity up to how many gallons? 20 gallons
What is the most common method for 2 firefighters to deploy a large salvage cover? The balloon throw
What can be used as a temporary means to control large amounts of water until chutes can be constructed? catchall
According to ifsta how much water will a catchall hold? several hundred gallons
When should overhaul start? When authorized by the ic or fire cause investigator.
What are the steps required to establish safe conditions for overhaul are? inspecting the premises, developing an operational plan, providing needed tools and equipment, eliminating/mitigating hazards
During overhaul at least one supply line should be left in place....what size is typically required 1 1/2 or 1 3/4
Where does overhaul typically begin in the area of most severe fire involvement.
When dealing with balloon construction what areas should be checked the attic and basement
How should a FF position themself when pulling ceiling do not stand directly under the area to be opened, position yourself between the area being pulled and the doorway to keep the exit route from being blocked with falling debris.
What additive can be used to improve extinguishment of hidden fires? Class A foam
How should fires in bales of rags, cotton, hay be extinguished? by breaking them apart
What should be done with burning mattresses and upholstered furniture during overhaul? remove them to the outside of the structure.
