DMS litterary terms

| Free verse | write in loose groupings of words and phrases, doesn't have a regular beat. |
| quatrain | a stanza made up of 4 lines |
| extended metaphor | a comparison made throughout the piece/poem |
| ode | a poem written to honor someone or something of great importance to the speaker/writer, normally rhyme |
| purpose | pays honor to someone |
| ode tone | shows love and affection, no rules about length or stanzas |
| alliteration | string of words starting with the same sound * Peter Picks a Pock of Pickled Peppers=example |
| couplet | Stanza made of 2 lines |
| rhyme | words that have the same ending sound |
| end rhyme | rhyming word at the end of a sentence. |
| internal rhyme | rhymes within a sentence/phrase |
| rhyme sceme | the way the lines are grouped |
| triplet | stanza made of 3 lines |
| onomatopoeia | words that sound like the noise they make example= crash, boom, bang |
