QuestionAnswer
alkali metals Group 1A. Soft, low-melting, reactive metals. Very reactive with H20. Abundant in Earth's crust.
Alkaline earth metals Group 2A. Less reactive than alkali. Also abundant in Earth's crust.
Halogens Group 7A. "salt-formers." Most reactive non-metals, decreasing down group.
Nobel gases Group 8A. Mostly inert, all gases at room temp. Xe, Kr, Rn Ar compounds made.
Periods Across the PT. Properties change, increasing atomic number.
Groups Columns of PT. Similar properties down the column.
Metals Shiny, good electrical conductors, most elements
Nonmetals Typically don't conduct electricity
Metalloids Have metal and nonmetal properties
Transition metals B groups (or 3-12) in center of PT.
