QuestionAnswer
Protagonist The principal character in a literary work. The character the story revolves around.
Antagonist the counterpart to the main character and source of main conflicts
Point of view Prospective of narrator
Internal/external conflict the struggle within the plot between opposing forces.
Stasis everyday life, in which the story is set
Trigger starts the conflict, sparks off action
the Quest the journey/adventure
Surprise includes pleasant events, but mainly includes obstacles that challenge for the protagonist
Critical Choice The crucial decision where we find what the main character is about
Climax the highest peak of action
Reversal the consequence of the critical choice, should change the status of character
Resolution a return to stasis
Convention traditional aspects of a piece of writing.
Syntax how the words are arranged in a sentence.
Agreement making sure that subjects and verbs agree.
Punctuation making sure your sentences have the correct punctuation
Diction choice of words in regards to clarity and correctness.
In media res when the story starts in the middle
Imagery language that appeals to the senses.
Dialogue Tag when a character expresses an idea or thought through talking. When a character speaks.
Pun wordplay with two or more meanings
Dramatic Irony when reader knows something the character doesn't.
theme the central topic or the concept the writer is trying to push to the readers.
irony The use of words to convey the opposite of their literal meaning
Metaphor is a literary figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is, on some point of comparison
Personification giving human traits to non-living objects
Monologue a speech presented by a single character
paraphrase is a restatement of the meaning of a text or passage using other words
