| Trigger | starts the conflict, sparks off action |

| Surprise | includes pleasant events, but mainly includes obstacles that challenge for the protagonist |
| Critical Choice | The crucial decision where we find what the main character is about |

| Dramatic Irony | when reader knows something the character doesn't. |

| irony | The use of words to convey the opposite of their literal meaning |
| Metaphor | is a literary figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is, on some point of comparison |
| Personification | giving human traits to non-living objects |
| Monologue | a speech presented by a single character |
| paraphrase | is a restatement of the meaning of a text or passage using other words |
