Fe(II) | Add NaOH, get a light green precipitate |
Fe(III) | Add NaOH, get a red/brown precipitate |
Cu(II) | Add NaOH, get a light blue precipitate |
Calcium or Magnesium | Add NaOH, get a white precipitate |
Aluminium | AddNaOH, get a white precipitate which dissolves after more NaOH added |
Carbonate | Add dilute acid, then test for CO2 with limewater |
Sulphate | Add HCl and Barium Chloride, white precipitate |
Halide | Add dilute Nitric Acid and Silver Nitrate, get precipitates (white, cream, yellow) |
Nitrate | Add NaOH and Al. Test for ammonia gas (damp red litmus turns blue) |
