| Fe(II) | Add NaOH, get a light green precipitate |
| Fe(III) | Add NaOH, get a red/brown precipitate |
| Cu(II) | Add NaOH, get a light blue precipitate |
| Calcium or Magnesium | Add NaOH, get a white precipitate |
| Aluminium | AddNaOH, get a white precipitate which dissolves after more NaOH added |
| Carbonate | Add dilute acid, then test for CO2 with limewater |
| Sulphate | Add HCl and Barium Chloride, white precipitate |
| Halide | Add dilute Nitric Acid and Silver Nitrate, get precipitates (white, cream, yellow) |
| Nitrate | Add NaOH and Al. Test for ammonia gas (damp red litmus turns blue) |
