Geometry vocab

QuestionAnswer
Point An exact location in space
Line A straight path of points that goes on forever in two directions
Plane An endless flat surface
Line segment Part of a line and has two end points
Ray Part of a line that has only one endpoint and extends forever in one direction
Parallell lines Never cross and stay the same distance part
Intersecting lines Pass through the same point
Perpendicular lines Intersecting lines that form square corners
Angle Formed by two rays that have the same endpoint
Vertex The common endpoint
Acute angle Has a measure between 0 and 90°
Right angle Has a measure of 90°
Obtuse angle Has a measure between 90° and 180°
Straight angle Has a measure of 180°
Polygon Closed plane figure made up of line segments
Regular polygon Sides of equal length and angles of equal measure
Triangle 3 sides
Quadrilateral 4 sides
Pentagon 5 sides
Hexagon 6 sides
Octagon 8 sides
Equilateral triangle All sides are the same length
Isosceles triangle Two sides the same length
Scalene triangle No sides are the same length
Right triangle One angle is a right angle
Acute triangle All three angles are acute
Obtuse triangle One angle is an obtuse angle
Parallelogram Both pairs of opposite sides parallel and equal in length
Trapezoid Only one pair of parallel sides
Rectangle A parallelogram with four right angles
Rhombus A parallelogram with all sides the same length
Square A rectangle wth all sides the same length
