Bonding

QuestionAnswer
What is an alloy? A mixture of a metal with a small amount of another substance added to improve the properties of the metal.
What's the definition of an ionic bond? An electrostatic attraction between positive and negative ions.
Metals....? Lose electrons
Non-Metals....? Gain electrons
What is an ionic compound? A giant structure of ions, held together by strong electrostatic attractions between the oppositely charged ions.
Covalent bonds... form between non-metal atoms. The outer energy level of the atoms join and electrons are shared.
