Stanzas Groups of lines in a poem
Figure of Speech Language that helps make connections between seemingly unlike things. The two most common kinds of figures of speech are similes and metaphors.
Meter Regular pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables.
Free Verse Poetry that does not have a regular meter, or a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables.
Alliteration Repetition of consonant sounds in words that are close together.
Onomatopoeia The use of words with sounds that echo what they mean.
