| conflict | problems/struggles in a story (internal and external) |
| complications | things that arise and cause additional problems |
| climax | the most exciting moment in the story/when the CONFLICT of the PLOT is resolved |
| resolution | the final part of the plot when you learn what happens to the characters after the CONFLICT is resolved |
| predict | foretell; guess what will happen |
| event | something that happens in a story in order to keep the story moving forward |
| protagonist | the main character in the story |
| antagonist | a character who oppose the main character |
| trait | a quality or characteristic of a character |
| theme | central idea of the text or the lesson learned |
| compare | the examine for similarities and differences |
| contrast | to examine for differences |
| flashback | stopping the action in a story and shifting to something that happened earlier to give more information |
| foreshadowing | the techniques of giving clues to events that will happen in the future |
| drama | the put into play form; to act out |
| first person point of view | story is told by a narrator who is also a character within the story, so that the narrator reveals the plot by referring to this viewpoint character as "I" (or, when plural, "we") |
| third person omniscient point of view | an all-knowing narrator not only reports the facts but may also interpret events and tell the thoughts and feelings of any character |
| third person limited point of view | a narrator reports the facts and interprets events from the perspective of a single character |
| third person point of view | narrator relates all action in third person, using third person pronouns such as "he" or "she |
| mood | the feeling I get from a reading the text |
