estimate 1/9 | 0 |
estimate 3/4 | 1 |
Round 7/12; when rounding, remember your answer can be 0, 1/2, 1. Compare the numerator to the denominator. Is 7(the numerator) closer to #0, the #6(half of the denominator) or the #12(the denominator)? | 7 is closer to 6 SO 7/12 will round to 1/2 |
A mixed number is | the sum of a whole number part and a fraction part. |
An improper fraction | is any fraction in which the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator. |
Find the difference 6/9 - 2/3 | 1) find LCD 2)rename 3)subtract numerators LCD is 9 so I only change 2/3 to 6/9. Now I can subtract 6/9 - 6/9 = 0 |
Simplify the mixed number 5 23/22 | 23/22 is an improper fraction, which can be rewritten as 1 1/22 SO add that to 5 which gives you 6 1/22 |
Find the sum 3/5 + 1/15 | 1) find LCD 2)rename 3)add the numerators LCD is 15 so I only change 3/5 to 9/15. Now I can add the numerators 9/15 + 1/15 =10/15 SIMPLIFIED 10 divided by 5 is 2 & 15 divided by 5 is 3 SO the ANSWER IS 2/3 |
Find the sum 5/6 + 3/4 | 1) find LCD 2)rename 3)add the numerators LCD is 12 so I change 5/6 to 10/12 and 3/4 9/12. Now I can add the numerators 10/12 + 9/12 = 19/12 SIMPLIFIED 19 divided by 12 is 1 and 7/12 SO the ANSWER is 1 7/12 |
Find the sum 1/3 + 5/9 | 1) find LCD 2)rename 3)add the numerators LCD is 9 so I only change 1/3 to 3/9. Now I can add the numerators 3/9 + 5/9 = 8/9 ANSWER is already in simplest form. |
