Year 9 Science Physics Topic 6 Energy and The Future

Thermal energy energy transferred by heating.
Light energy the energy of visible light.
Electrical energy energy transferred by electricity.
Sound energy the energy transferred by sound waves.
Chemical potential energy the energy stored in matter, which can be released by a chemical reaction( such as combustion).
Nuclear potential energy the energy stored in the nuclei of atoms.
Elastic potential energy the energy stored by things that have been stretches or squashed and can spring back.
Gravitational potential energy the energy stored in things that fall.
Energy transfer energy being moved from one place to another, possibly with a change of the form of energy at the same time.
System anything in which we are studying changes. Systems can be very complex (e.g. a planet) or quite simple (e.g. a piece of metal).
Law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, although energy may transform from one form to another.
Efficiency the proportion of input energy that is transferred to a useful form.
