| Characterization | how a character is described (what the character says, does, thinks, and what others say about them) |

| Flashback | stopping a story to explain something that happened in the past |
| Foreshadowing | a hint that something will happen in the future |
| Irony | when the opposite of what is expected happens, when the reader/audience knows something the character does not |
| Mood | the feeling the reader is meant to get from the piece |
| Tone | The attitude of the author towards his/her writing |
| Point of View | the perspective the story is told from (DO NOT USE WORDS INSIDE THE QUOTATION MARKS!) 1st person, 2nd person, 3rd person 1st Person- |

| Antagonist | the person or force that works against the protagonist |
| Protagonist | the character who the action happens around |

| Rising Action | when the conflict is introduced |
| Climax | when the story turns and a character changes or the action comes to a peak |
| Falling Action | when a conflict is being solved |
| Resolution | The ending of a story when the conflict is dealt with. |
