| occupant | someone who lives in, or occupies, a place |
| landlord | the owner (male) of a rental property; landlady (female) |
| lease | a contract for the rental of a car, apartment or other equipment that details terms and length of time |
| expiration | end date; time something finishes |
| lic. plate | license plate; the identification plate on a car |
| screening | the process of checking an applicant's credit and references |
| reference | person listed on an application who can give information about an applicant |
| relative | a family member |
| declare | to state; to tell or give informaion |
| evicted | to be forced to leave a residence, or rental property |
| terminate | the process of ending a term or agreement due to problems with the tenant |
| alimony | money received by an ex-spouse after a divorce |
| annual | yearly; period of time from the start of one year to its end |
| bankruptcy | the state of having been legally declared bankrupt; unable to pay what is owed |
| deposit | an amount of money given as partial payment or security |
| waive | to give something up voluntarily, especially a right or claim |
