| Mollie | The horse who liked the fine things like ribbons even though it represented being owned by humans. She represents the wealthier class of Russia. |
| Squealer | The pig that always spread the word of Napolean to the other animals. He represents the Russian media who wrote only about Stalin's ideas. |
| Mr. Jones | The owner of Manor Farm who drank too much and did not treat the animals well. He represents Nicholas II, the Czar of Russia. |
| Boxer | The biggest horse on the farm. He did all the hard labor and never questioned what he was told. He represents the working class of Russia. |
| Clover | Boxer's counterpart, a horse who followed orders without questioning. |
| Old Benjamin | The donkey who could read but did not really exercise his ability. He was cynical of his "leaders" but did not interfere. He represents the older men of Russia. |
| The dogs | Bluebell, Jessie, and the other animals of their kind were trained to be the body guards for Napolean and followed anything he said. They represent the military police in Russia. |
