alpha particle have a greater charge and mass than beta or gamma do. made of 2 protons and 2 neutrons REMEMBER!!!! can be stopped by paper.......AND most dangerous particle
beta particle have a 1- OR a 1+ charge and almost no mass. can penetrate through more than an alpha particle. takes a couple millimeters of aluminum to stop
gamma ray has no mass or charge, the most penetrating of them all. pure beam of light. stopped by lead or concrete
half life the time it takes for a radioactive material to lose half of it radioactivity
henri becquerel discovered radioactivity ( didn't come up with the word for it )
mass number the sum of the numbers of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom
