| Apostrophe | rhetorical figure in which the speaker addresses a dead or absent person |
| Anaphora | figure of repetition in which same word or phrase is repeated |
| Anagnorisis | used to denote turning point in drama where character sees the truth |
| Antanaclasis | figure of speech that makes a pun by repeating the same word but with different meanings |
| Aporia | figure of speech in which a speaker deliberates or purports to be in doubt about a question |
| Antiphrasis | a single word is used in a sense directly opposite to it's usual meaning |
| Adynaton | like a hyperbole emphasizes that you can't express it by comparing it to an immeasurable amount |
| Aposiopesis | rhetorical device in which the speaker suddenly breaks off in the middle of a sentence |
| Anadiplosis | rhetorical figure of repetition in which a word or phrase appears in end of one sentence and beginning of next |
| Anachronism | misplacing of any person, thing, custom or event outside it's proper time |
| Asyndeton | form of verbal compression which consists of the omission of connecting words |
| Aphorism | statement of some general principle, expressed by considering much wisdom into few words |
| Aesthetics | philosophical investigation of nature and perception of beauty |
| Allegory | story or visual image with a 2nd distinct meaning behind a stated or literal meaning |
