particle Small portion of matter
molecule Two or more atoms chemically combined.
atom The smallest object that retains properties of an element. Composed of electrons and a nucleus (containing protons and neutrons).
Formula Unit The smallest repeating unit of a substance. The molecule for nonionic substances
Molar Mass is a unit that enables scientists to calculate the weight of any chemical substance, be it an element or a compound. Molar mass is the sum of all of the atomic masses in a formula. More information and molar mass calculator.
mole A collection of 6.023* 1023 number of objects. Usually used to mean molecules.
percent composition Expresses the weight ratio between different elements in a compound.
