Sentence Types

Independent Clause | expresses a complete thought and can stand by itself as a sentence |
Subordinate Clause | does not express a complete thought and cannot stand alone as a sentence also know as a dependent clause |
Simple Sentence | a sentence containing an independent clause |
Compound Sentence | sentence that contains two or more independent clauses joined by a conjunction or semicolon. |
Subject | who or what the sentence is about. |
Verb | tells what the subject is or does |
Run-on sentence | two or more independent clauses joined without a conjunction or semicolon. |
sentence fragment | a sentence missing a subject or verb or complete thought |
Complex sentence | a sentence that contains and independent clause and at least one dependent clause. |
