Imagery mental pictures that are created with words
Alliteration the repetition of beginning consonant sounds in words
Hyperbole an exaggeration that something either has much more or much less of a quality than it actually has
Idiom an expression with a meaning different from the literal meaning of the individual words
Symbol an object, person, action, or situation that signifies more than itself
Pun one word with multiple meanings. ex: some say i gave him the boot
Personification a description of non-human objects or ideas using human characteristics
Consonance the repetition of consonant sounds anywhere in words. Ex: bring back the stack
Assonance the repetition of vowel sounds in words. Example: paid, same, make
