Collect and Organize Data

Data Information collected about people or things
Tally A mark used to show how often something happens
Pictograph A graph that uses pictures to show data
Survey Gather information
Frequency The number of times a response occurs
Mean The average of the set of numbers, found by dividing the sum of the set by the number of addends
Median The middle number in an ordered set of numbers
Mode The number or item in the set of data that occurs most often
Range The difference between the least and the greatest values
Outlier The data value that stands out from the other data values in the set
Line plot A graph that shows the frequency of data along a number line
Stem- and - leaf plot A table that shows groups of data arranged by place value
Interval The distance between the numbers on a scale
Scale The series of numbers placed at fixed distances to label a graph
Cumulative Frequency- a running total of frequencies
Stem each tens digit in a stem-and-leaf plot
Leaf each ones digit in a stem-and-leaf plot
