Algebra: Using Addition and Subtraction

Parentheses Symbols used to show what operation should be done first. ( )
Expression The math phrase that uses numbers and operation signs but no equal sign.
Variable A letter or symbol that can stand for an unknown number.
Commutative Property Changing the order of addends does not change the sum.
Associative Property Changing how the addends are grouped does not change the sum.
Identity Property The sum of any number and zero is that number.
Equation A number sentence that states two amounts are equal.
