Compound sentence | A sentence in which two clauses are connected by the word and or with the word or. EX)"x is between 3 and 4 means 3 |
Union | The solution set for a compound sentence using or is the union of the solution sets to the individual sentence. Symbol is U. EX)The union of sets A and B is written as A U B. |
Properties of inequality | For all real numbers a,b, and c: If a 0, then ac bc (inequality) |
Solution set for a system | Is the intersection of the solution sets for the individual sentences. When system has more than 2 equations each with 2 variables, the solution can be found by a table or graph. |
Linear combination method | Involves adding multiples of the given equations. EX) Ax + By linear combination of x and y. |
Matrix form of a system | x+3y=22 2x-y=2 the matrix would look like this:[1 3] [2 -1] |
Coefficient matrix | The matrix [1 3] contains the coefficients matrix. [2 -1] |
Half-planes | When a line is drawn in a plane, the line seprates the plane into 2 distinct regions. |
Boundary | The line itsself is the boundary of the two regions. |
Feasible set or feasible region | The set of solutions to a system of a linear inequalities for that system. Intersection of the boundaries are also called VERTICES. |
