Person vs. Person the protagonist is stopped from doing something by another character( in the story "Thank you, M'am," Roger wants money and his attempt to get money is stopped by Mrs. Jones.
Person vs. environment conflict is between people and their environment or the conditions under which they live (in the story "American History," Elena struggles against what people think of her because she is Puerto Rican and lives in El Building).
Person vs. self conflict between a person and his or her own mind-takes place inside a character (in the story "Everyday Use," the mother struggles to understand and respond to both her daughers).
How many kinds of conflict may a short story have? It may have more than 1. For example, in "American History," person vs. self is shown when Elena struggles with the conflict of what other people think about her and the conflict of person vs. environment-Elenas's struggle with where she lives.
