Sub-Verb Agreement

Describes the subject and verb agreement rules.

when a sentence contains a verb phrase, the first helping verb in the phrases agrees with the subject. The motor is running. The motors are running.

when both a singular subject and a plural subject show up in one sentence, the subject closes to the verb, agrees with it. a book or flowers usually make an appropriate gift. Flowers or a book usually makes an appropriate gift.
