How does an understanding of conventional wisdom affect your understanding of sociology? Questioning and researching common sense beliefs puts you in a better position to make decisions. Decisions will be based on reality
What is sociology? The scientific study of social structure, sociology examines human social behavior
How is the sociological perspective defferent from the psychological perspective? sociological perpective never focuses on the individual. sociologists focus on patterns of behavior shared by members of a group or society. Explains events without relying on personal factors, looking for social rather than personal explanations
why do patterns interest sociologists? patterned interactions between people indicate social structure
explain how Emile Durkheim used bronze to ilustrate sociology's assumption that the behavior of a group cannot be predicted from knowledge about individual members we don't try to explain bronze in terms of its parts-lead, copper, tin-we consider it a new metal. We do a similar process within groups of people
How can using your sociological imagination, a term introduced by C. Wright Mills, make a difference in your life? allows you to question common interpretation of human social behavior. The social awareness you gain puts you in a better position to make your own decisions
who is the father of sociology, and why is he recognized as such? Auguste Comte's main conern was thhe improvement of society to advance, social behavior had to be studied scientifically. Comte created one and called it sociology
what is the difference between social statics and social dynamics? social static is the study of social stability and order, while social dynamics is the study of social change
