| What is a plot? | the sequence of events in a story is called the plot |
| What is a conflict? | the central problem faced by the main character in a story |
| What are the 5 stages of plot? | exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution |
| What is the exposition? | provides important background information, introduces the setting, and introduces important characters |
| What is the rising action? | stage of plot where the conflict develops. complications arise that make the conflict intense. tension grows as the characters struggle to resolve the conflict |
| What is the climax? | the stage of plot which is the high poit of interest or tension. it provides a turning point in the story |
| What is the falling action? | this stage shows the results of the important decisions or actions that happened at the climax. tension eases, but the final outcome of the story is not yet worked out |
| What is the resolution? | the loose ends are tied off as the final outcome of the story is worked out. this allows the reader to clearly understand what happened |

| What are the four basic methods of characterization? | Physical appearance, Direct comments about him/her, character thoughts and actions, and other characters thoughts about that character and actions towards him/her |
