What is a plot? the sequence of events in a story is called the plot
What is a conflict? the central problem faced by the main character in a story
What are the 5 stages of plot? exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution
What is the exposition? provides important background information, introduces the setting, and introduces important characters
What is the rising action? stage of plot where the conflict develops. complications arise that make the conflict intense. tension grows as the characters struggle to resolve the conflict
What is the climax? the stage of plot which is the high poit of interest or tension. it provides a turning point in the story
What is the falling action? this stage shows the results of the important decisions or actions that happened at the climax. tension eases, but the final outcome of the story is not yet worked out
What is the resolution? the loose ends are tied off as the final outcome of the story is worked out. this allows the reader to clearly understand what happened
What is the way a writer creates and develops characters personalities? Characterization
What are the four basic methods of characterization? Physical appearance, Direct comments about him/her, character thoughts and actions, and other characters thoughts about that character and actions towards him/her
What is developed through descriptions and comments stated in the story? Direct Characterization
What is presented through the thoughts and actions of the characters? Indirect Characterization
What are characters? Individuals who participate in the action of a story, like real people, characters display certain qualities, known as character traits, which develop throughout the story.
What are main characters? the most important characters in the story, the story is focused on these main characters
What are minor characters? the less important characters who support the plot development; they help carry out the action of the story and help the reader learn more about the main characters
What is a mood? the feeling or atmosphere that authors create using descriptive words, imagery, figurative language, and sound
What is an inference? a logical assumption that is based on observed facts and one's own knowledge and experience
What is a connotation? an attitude or feeling associated with a word
What is a denotaion? a word's dictionary definition
What is characters? individuals who participate in the action of a story like real people, characters display certain qualities, known as character traits, which develp throughout the story

What is an antagonist? principal character or forece in opposition to a main character
what is a protagonist? main character in a work of literature, who is involed in the central conflict of the story. usually the protagonist changes after the central conflict reaches a climax, he or she may be a hero
