Properties of Matter

| Mass | The amount of matter in an object. |
| Weight | How strongly gravity pulls on an object. |
| Volume | Measure of how much space matter takes up. |
| Matter | Anything that has mass and volume. |
| Density | Amount of mass for each cubic centimeter. |
| Buoyancy | The resistance to sinking. |
| Solid | State of matter where particles are very tight and do not change shape. |
| Liquid | State of matter where particles are close, but can move freely. They take the shape of the container. |
| Gas | State of matter where particles are not close together and move easily past each other. It has no volume or shape. |
| physical change | A change of matter in size, shape, or state of an object without changing what type of matter it is. |
| freezing point | 0 C or 32 F |
| boiling point | 100 C or 212 F |
| thermal expansion | increase in size due to increased temperature |
| thermal contraction | derease in size due to decreased temperature |
| chemical change | A change of matter that creates a new substance different from the original substance |
