Where do paid on call firefighters usually respond from? A-Their homes or workplaces
What is the definition of integrity? A- “Obedience to the unenforceable.” Doing the right thing simply because it is right.
What is the definition of work ethic? A-Doing what needs to be done without being told, doing what you are asked to do without complaint, doing it completely, and doing it to the best of your ability. Promptness, reliability, initiative.
What is pride? A-Pride in yourself starts with how you look and behave. Look professional.
What is it called when a situation is not staying the same...it is getting bigger or getting worse? A- An emergency.
What is the mission of the fire service? A-To save lives and protect property.
What are the primary tactical priorities of most fire departments? A-Life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation
What is unity of command? A-This means that you report to only one supervisor.
What is the rule of thumb regarding span of control? A-An officer can directly supervise 3 to 7 firefighters, with 5 being optimum.
What is division of labor? A-The process of dividing large jobs into small jobs to make them more manageable.
This term means an organization’s responsibility to provide the direction needed to satisfy its identified goals and objectives and the individual’s responsibility to follow the direction given A-Discipline
What is the standard operating unit of a fire department? A-A fire company.
This company deploys hoselines for fire attach and exposure protection. A-Engine company
This company performs forcible entry, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage and overhaul, and utilities control and provides access to upper levels of a structure. A-Truck (Ladder) company
Searches for and removes victims from areas of danger or entrapment and may perform technical rescues. A-Rescue squad/company
Extinguishes wildland fires and protects structures in the wildland/urban interface. A-Brush company

What are the training levels/classifications of emergency medical personnel? A-First responder-stabilizes victims until more highly trained personnel arrive. EMT-provides BLS for victims. Paramedic-Provides ALS for victims.
What is a policy? A-A guide to decision making within an organization.
What is a procedure? A written communication closely related to a policy. A detailed plan of action.
A directive is good for how long? A-one year
Some fire departments have a predetermined plan for nearly every situation they can conceive of occurring-both emergency and non emergency. These plans are known as? A-Standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
The command staff is referred to as what? A-Officers
What positions make up the command staff? A-Safety officer, liaison officer, public information officer
The General Staff consists of what positions? A-Operations section chief, planning section chief, logistics section chief, finance/admin section chief, information/intelligence function (when required).
What does the term available mean? A-resources have checked in at the incident and are not currently assigned.
What is a branch? A-The organizational level between division/groups and the IC and operations.
What is a division? A-A geographic designation....The division level is between the strike tea or other operational unit and a branch. All groups operating within that specific geographic area report to that division supervisor.
What is a group? A-A functional designation-forcible entry, salvage, ventilation, etc.
What is an Incident Action Plan? A-The written or unwritten plan for managing the emergency.
All personnel and major pieces of apparatus on scene or enroute and on which status is maintained are called what? A-Resources
A set number or resources of the same kind and type with an established minimum number or personnel. A-Strike team
Any combination of resources assembled in support of a specific mission or operational need. A-Task force
What is the priority of law enforcement while present at a fire scene? A-Scene security, traffic flow, investigations.
