WORDDEFINITION
altruism n. devotion to the welfare of others, regard for others, as a principle of action; as opposed to egoism or selfishness
amorphous adj. Having no determinate shape, shapeless, unshaped; irregularly shaped, unshapely.
boor n. A peasant, a rustic, with lack of refinement implied; a country clown.
carrion n. A dead body; a corpse or carcass.
enervate v. To lessen the vitality or strength of.
ephemeral adj. Lasting only one day or for a very short time.
factious adj. Of, relating to, caused by, or inclined to a government party or group that is often contentious or self-seeking.
fervent adj. Of, relating to, caused by, or inclined to a government party or group that is often contentious or self-seeking.
ignoble adj. Characterized by baseness, lowness, or meanness.
rectify v. To correct by removing errors.
antipathy n. a natural, basic, or habitual repugnance; aversion.
elucidate v. to make lucid or clear; throw light upon; explain.
imminent adj. likely to occur at any moment; impending.
banal adj. devoid of freshness or originality; hackneyed; trite.
obdurate adj. unmoved by persuasion, pity, or tender feelings; stubborn; unyielding.
peruse v. to read through with thoroughness or care.
bedlam n. a scene or state of wild uproar and confusion.
affluence n. abundance of money, property, and other material goods.
scurrilous adj. grossly or obscenely abusive.
parody n. a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing.
sedulous adj. diligent in application or attention; persevering; assiduous.
onerous adj. burdensome, oppressive, or troublesome; causing hardship.
amoral adj. having no moral standards, restraints, or principles; unaware of or indifferent to questions of right or wrong.
eschew v. to abstain or keep away from; shun; avoid.
denouement n. the final resolution of the intricacies of a plot, as of a drama or novel.
idolatry n. Worship of something or someone other than the true God.
adulterate v. to corrupt, debase, or make impure by adding a foreign or inferior substance.

garish adj. glaring; tastelessly showy or overdecorated in a vulgar or offensive way.
immutable adj. not subject or susceptible to change or variation in form or quality or nature.
diadem n. an ornamental bejeweled headdress signifying sovereignty or authority.
bucolic adj. characteristic of the countryside, rural; relating to shepherds and cowherds, pastoral.
redolent adj. fragrant, smelling strongly; tending to arouse memories or create an aura.
impecunious adj. not having enough money to pay for necessities.
sedition n. conduct or language inciting rebellion; rebellion; resistance to authority; insubordination.
defile v. to spot, stain, or pollute; to place under suspicion or cast doubt upon.
gratuitous adj. given freely; unearned; unwarranted.
onus n. something that is heavy or burdensome (especially an unwelcome responsibility); a stigma; blame; an obligation.
impious adj. lacking piety or reverence for God; undevout in religion.
caveat n. a warning or caution to prevent misunderstanding or discourage certain behavior
