What is a variable? A symbol that can be replaced by any one of a set of numbers or other objects
What is an algebraic expression? A combining of numbers, variables, and operations in a way that stands for a number.
What is required in an algebraic sentence? An algebraic expression that is related with with an equality or an inequality.
Opposite of a Sum Theorem For all real numbers a and b -(a+b)= -a+-b
Slope Theorem The graph of the direct-variation function y-kx has constant slope k.
Dependent Variable A variable whose value always depends on the value(s) of the other variable(s).Deals with Range and output.
Independent Variable A variable whose value determines the other variable(s) value(s). Deals with Domain and input.
Natural/ Counting Numbers 1,2,3,4,....
Whole Numbers 0,1,2,3,4,...
Integers .....-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,...
Rational Numbers 0,1,-7, 2/3, .004, 6 7/9,
Real Numbers 0, 1, -7, pi, anything that can be represented by decimals
What does "y" also equal? f(x) (F of x) This form is call f(x) notation
What is any set of ordered pairs called? A relation
What is a function? Any relation in which no two different ordered pairs have the same first coordinate.
Theorem (Vertical-Line Test for Functions) No vertical line intersects the graph a function in more then one point.
Recursive Formula Formula where the first term is given and gives a rule on how to find the nth term.
