Self-determination The right of a nation to govern itself autonomously
State A politically organized territory that is administered under one government and is recognized as a state
States' rights Rights and powers believed to be in the authority of the state rather than the federal (local) government
Subsequent boundaries Boundary line established after an area has been settled that considers the social and cultural characteristics of an area, and in that way, doesn't force certain culture to live next to each other if they are already so hostile to one another
Superimposed boundaries Boundary line drawn in an area ignoring the existing cultural pattern EX: Many states in Africa have superimposed boundaries due to being colonized by various European countries
Supranational organization Organization of three or more states to promote shared objectives, but in doing so, losing a bit of their state sovereignity EX: European Union
Territorial dispute Any dispute over land ownership, may include disputes about which state owns a resource if it is lies between the borders of the two states
Territorial organization Political organizatino that distributes political power in more easily governed units of land
Theocracy A state whose government is either believed to be divinely guided or a state under the control of a gorup of religious leaders
United Nations A global SUPRANATIONAL organization established at the end of World War II to foster international security and cooperation
