| Generic Equation | An equation that uses symbols or letters (A,B,C,D) to represent chemical substances in a reaction |
| Combustion Reaction | A reaction in which a hydrocarbon reacts with oxygen, releasing energy in the form of light and heat |
| Decomposition Reaction | A reaction in which a single compound produces two or more simpler substances |
| Double-Replacement Reaction | A reaction in which the ions of two compounds exchange places in an aqueous solution to form two new compounds |
| Synthesis Reaction | A reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a new compound |
| Single-Replacement Reaction | A reaction in which one element replaces a similar element in a compound |
