metric system the system of measurement that includes gram, liter, and meter
percent a ratio that compares a number to 100
proportion an equation that shows that two ratios are equivalent
proportional two ratios that simplify to the same ratio and have the equal cross-products
rate a ratio that compares two numbers with different kinds of units (for example, gallons:hour, price:item, meters: second)
ratio the comparison of two numbers that can be written in various ways
scale factor the number multiplied by to create an equivalent ratio
area the number of square units covering a surface of a figure
base (of a figure) the dimension that is perpendicular to the height in a shape
circumference the distance around a circle or its perimeter
quotient the solution to a division problem
numerator the number above the bar in a fraction
denominator the number below the bar in a fraction
