fungal culture lab test (DTN): used to grow dermatophytes for ID
bacterial culture & sensititivity lab test: used to grow/ID bacteria from lesions - determine antibiotic sensitivity
impetigo superficial bacterial skin infection (face, vaginal, rectal) "puppy pyoderma" (staph)
intertigo skin fold pyoderma
acne clogged pores - oil forming "black heads" - most common in cats
lesion area of altered skin
rash wide spread eruption of lesions
hyperpigmentation increased pigmentation of skin
lichenification thickening/hardening of skin - "elephant skin"
cyst fluid filled nodule - can be above/beneath skin
macule focal, circumscribed, nonpalable change in color, <1cm (larger:patch)
papule small, elevated lesion of skin ~ 1cm
wheal raise, fluid filled lesion - disappears within minutes to hours
pustule "pimple"
abscess localized collection of pus;larger than pustule
