Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Neck pain. Dyspnea, Abnormal throat sensation, Inability to talk, Weakness in any extremity, Tingling in hands or feet, Tingling down spine with neck flexed, Loss of sensation in arms or hands, Intense pain following injury.
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Shoulder pain. Visible swelling, Fever/Chills, Constant progressive pain, Axillary pain, Night pain, Numbness/Tingling, Inability to abduct arm, Aggravated by neck motion, Weight loss, Dyspnea, Pain unrelated to arm movement (referred).
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Arm and Hand pain. 1. Arm pain associated with dyspnea, chest pain, etc., 2. Persistent sensory abnormalities (numbness, burning, tingling) especially associated with neck pain. 3. Painful redness, swelling, and lesions with fever, malaise
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Low Back pain. Pain at rest, Episode > 1 month, Weight loss, Fever, Extremity weakness or pain, Trauma, Wide gate, No pain when seated, Improvement with exercise/morning stiffness/get out of bed, Cauda equina syndrome = urinary/fecal incontinence and saddle anesthisia
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Buttock, Hip, Thigh pain. Loss of bowel or bladder control Persistant sensory abnormalities (numbness, burning, tingling Inability to bear weight Painful redness and swelling in thigh - DVT
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Knee pain. 1. Locking; giving away; severe pain with warm, effusion, fever 2. Pain, coolness and cyanosis distal to knee 3. Weakness and/or loss of sensation distal to knee 4. Refractory to conservative treatment
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with calf pain. 1. All the signs of DVT
Myalgias Nonspecific muscular pain, tenderness
Radiculopathy Pain caused by irritation or compression of a nerve in or near the spinal column - producing symptoms in the area of innervation.
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Ankle pain. 1. Persistant rolling 2. Pain/swelling in Deltoid ligament area. 3. Pain in lower anterior leg above ankle - high sprain 4. Numbness, weakness - nerve involvment 5. Inability to walk 4 steps after injury - Fx 6. Symptoms of Achilles tendon rupture
Identify the alarm symptoms associated with Foot pain. 1. Fever, ulceration, or skin redness - Cellulitis, Septic arthritis 2. Trauma with inability to bear weight - Fx 3. Pain upon weight bearing following by swelling - Stress Fx 3.
Gelling Stiffness and limited ROM after inactivity
Tenosynovitis Inflammation of a tendon sheath.
Arthralgias Neuralgic pain in a joint or joints
Cellulitis Spreading inflammation of subcutaneous or connective tissue.
Compare/Contrast the history of traumatic and non-traumatic musculoskeletal symptoms. Dah, Trauma
Describe Reumatoid Arthritis with respect to: Age, Gelling, Number/Size of joints involved, Migratory, Associated systemic symptoms Age - 40 to 50. Gelling - yes. Number/size of joints - polyarticular/bilateral, hands, wrists, elbos, feet, ankles, knees. Migratory - yes. Associated symtpoms - tons, weakness/fatigue, weight loss, low fever
Compare/Contrast the patient history of radicular vs referred pain. Radicular - comes from specific location along spinal collumne. C7, C6 Referred pain - comes from any part of the body that is injured/damaged, usually visceral
Describe Gout with respect to age, gelling, # of joints involved, migratory or not, size of joints, and systemic symptoms. Age - Men over 40. Gellin - no/limited. Number/size of joints involved - usually big toe, but can be polyarticular and include feet, ankle, knees, elbows. Migratory - no. Systemic symptoms - fever
List the non-infammatory joint disorders in Bates. Osteoarthritis
Describe Osteoarthritis with respect to: Age, Gelling, Number and size of joints involved, Migratory, Associated symptoms (systemic) Age - Gelling - Yes. Number/Size - Polyarticular, Spine,hands, wrist, hips, knees. Migratory - yes. Associated - None
List the inflammatory joint disorders in Bates. Rheumatoid, Gout, Septic Arthritis, Gonococcal Arthritis
Describe Septic Arthritis with respect to age, gelling, # of joints involved, migratory or not, size of joints, and systemic symptoms. Age - any from newborns to geriatric Gelling - yes. Number/Size of joints involved - uasually monoarticular, any joint. Systemic symptoms - low fever
Describe Gonoccol arthritis with respect to age, gelling, number/size of joints involved, migratory, and systemic symptoms. Age - People who are sexualy activity. Gelling - ? Number/Size of joints involved - monoarticular or polyarticular in hands,wrists. Migratory - no. Systemic symptoms - Fever, abdominal pain, skin rahs, buring while urinating
