Math vocab

QuestionAnswer
metric system the system of measurement that includes gram, liter, and meter.
percent a ratio that compares a number to 100
proportion an equation that shows that two ratios are equivalent.
proportional two ratios that simplify to the same ratio and have equal cross-products
rate a ratio that compares two numbers with different kinds of units (for example, gallons: hour, price: item, meters: second)
quotient The solution to a division problem.
numerator the number above the bar in a fraction; the part of the fraction that tells how many of the equal parts are being used.
denominator the number below the bar in a fraction; the part of the fraction that tells how many parts are in the whole
